OLOL KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS –
CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY FAMILY
Families today face many struggles, both through cultural pressure and through the personal struggles that accompany family life. Despite these struggles — and partly as a result of conquering them — families have great capacity for love and joy, a joy that is strengthened through the peace and truth found in Christ. Consequently, the Knights of Columbus at OLOL are requesting all parishioners to consider dedicating Sunday, December 28th to the “CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY FAMILY”.
To help families live out the joy of Christ, our local Knights of Columbus are providing “prayer cards” composed by Archbishop William Lori which will assist families coming together to consecrate themselves under the protection of the Holy Family. In this prayer, we ask for the aid or intercession of the perfect son Jesus Christ, Mary the perfect mother, and Joseph who is a model for every father. These “prayer cards” will be found in the Church’s Narthex at all Masses on Sunday, December 28th.
Preparing for the “Consecration to the Holy Family” is not a single event. It is choosing a way of life for your family. Through this consecration, each participant is consciously choosing to be a beacon of God’s love through His Church
Each family is encouraged to intentionally fast from something ahead of the consecration. This fast should last at least a week leading up to the consecration. It is strongly encouraged to fast from something that would normally be consumed or an activity that is regularly done. Fasting helps discipline our minds and hearts and moves us to be more focused on God.
Consider the following steps as part of your preparation:
Pray Together: Spend time in prayer as a family, asking for the Holy Family's guidance and protection.
Sacrament of Reconciliation: Encourage each family member to participate in the sacrament of reconciliation, fostering a spirit of renewal and grace
On behalf of your Knights of Columbus Council, we invite all Brother Knights Family Members to join us at 8:30 am Mass on Sunday, December 28th to participate in the Consecration to the Holy Family. Please be sure to wear your Knights of Columbus Name Badges as well as your KofC shirts if possible.
